Nowadays, interior design has gone far beyond the conventional framework, opening the door to a variety of styles. Two of them that have gained huge popularity are the loft and industrial styles. Despite some similarities, both styles have their own unique features that attract interior design enthusiasts.
Loft vs. industrial style, the most important differences
Both styles come from the same period, i.e. from the beginning of the twentieth century, which is why interior proposals are often similar to each other. They originate from industrial spaces such as warehouses, factories or production halls, which have been converted into apartments. Both styles are based on open spaces, raw finishes and large windows. They have a similar color palette – black, gray, white and high quality workmanship made of raw materials – concrete, steel, glass. The main difference that distinguishes the loft style from the industrial style is the coziness, which occurs only in the loft style. Warm ornaments, decorations, plants are often used in this style, which make the interior more cozy. In the industrial style, such elements do not exist.
Colors and lighting
The loft style is dominated by subdued colors, often using white, gray, beige, but the interior is accentuated with warm shades in the form of plants or wooden decorations.
In the industrial style, on the other hand, dark colors such as black and graphite are used, giving the rooms an industrial raw look. There is no place for warm shades here, when arranging an interior in this style, we rely only on cool shades and raw elements.
Loft vs. industrial style, similarities
Both styles are characterized by austerity and simplicity of form. Unwanted ornaments are usually eliminated in favor of raw, natural materials. Both loft and industrial design are conducive to open spaces, eliminating unnecessary walls. Large, spacious spaces are a key element of both styles. Loft and industrial styles use similar materials such as steel, concrete, wood and glass. Exposed structural elements give the interiors a raw, unprocessed look.
Materials used in loft and industrial style
In the loft style, we often find:
- Bricks on walls, floors , or as decorative elements;
- Wood in the form of raw planks or beams;
- Glass in the form of large, open windows .
In the industrial style, on the other hand, the following are popular:
- Steel structures, visible pipes or stairs;
- Concrete floors, stairs and decorative elements;
- Metal and leather furniture.
Loft and industrial styles, although they have some similarities, differ in their final reception. Both styles offer a raw aesthetic while being extremely attractive to those who value originality. The loft and industrial style is an ideal proposition for those who want interiors with character and unique design.
